Tim Hansen is a local Charleston artist who was born just outside of New York City, but has resided in the Charleston area for the past 27 years. His love for art began many years ago, although he just began painting in January. He went to the College of Charleston for a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, a minor in Engineering Physics, and finished a Masters of Science in Mathematics and a Graduate Certificate in Statistics from the University of Charleston, the graduate school at the College of Charleston. He is also working on a Masters and Ph.D. in Biostatistics at MUSC. Although he has degrees in math and the sciences, he has an equal passion and appreciation for the arts. Growing up near historical Charleston inspired him to paint local landscapes and houses. His love for advanced mathematics has also driven his interest in abstract art. He credits his knowledge of shapes, symmetry, and space from his studies in mathematics along with his extreme attention to detail for his ability to paint. He primarily uses acrylics in his paintings, but isn't shy about occasionally using oils. Tim is only four months into his painting career, but is absorbing more and more knowledge and interest everyday.
